If you have been diagnosed with cataracts or are experiencing any of the symptoms, cataract surgery can help you see clearly again. For many adults, being able to see the world through a crisp, clear lens is a breath of fresh air.

Find out if cataract surgery is right for you. Please call the office or schedule a consultation.

  1. Comply with your surgeon’s instructions.

Following laser eye surgery, your surgeon will provide you with specific aftercare instructions as well as any other restrictions. Follow these guidelines to ensure successful healing and recovery.

  1. Take medications and eye drops as directed.

If your eye surgeon prescribed medications or eye drops, use them as directed and do not stop using them unless directed otherwise by your surgeon.

  1. Take breaks to rest your eyes.

Even if you are wired and full of energy after your laser surgery, it is critical to rest your eyes and allow them to heal.

  1. Avoid using any electronic devices.

You will need to hang up the phone, turn off the tablet, turn off the TV, and avoid using the computer for at least 24-48 hours after surgery. Video screens can strain and irritate the eyes, causing them to dry out. Even after this time, you may need to use lubricating eye drops for a short period of time until the eyes are completely healed.

  1. Avoid reading a book, magazine, or other printed materials.

During your recovery period, you should also avoid any type of print media. Your eyes must focus on the text, which can be taxing on them.

  1. Avoid taking a shower.

You can take a bath but not a shower because shower water and steam are bad for your eyes after surgery. You should also avoid saunas, steam rooms, and swimming pools.

  1. Always wear UV-protective sunglasses.

Your eyes will be sensitive after surgery, just as they were when they were dilated. You should avoid bright light both outside and inside until your eyes heal.

  1. Avoid wearing eye makeup.

After your laser eye surgery, you should avoid wearing any eye makeup for about a week.

  1. Avoid sports and exercise.

This is your one chance to skip exercising or participating in sports for a few weeks to a month, depending on the type of exercise and sport.

  1. Attend all follow-up appointments with your eye doctor.

The day after your surgery, you will have a follow-up appointment. It is not uncommon to have another follow-up 3-4 weeks after surgery, and another 6 months later. These appointments ensure that the healing process is proceeding normally.

You will achieve the desired results if you take care of your eyes after laser eye surgery and follow the recommended aftercare and restrictions during your LASIK surgery recovery period or other laser surgery recovery period.
